Special Offer! Royal Crown Derby - Hari - Never Forget
This fine bone china infant Asian Elephant paperweight celebrates the life of Hari, one of our young elephants who sadly passed away, just before his third birthday.
A beautifully innocent piece, featuring stunning imagery of forget-me-knot flowers in jewel-like colours, the Hari Elephant is finished with 22 carat gold highlights together with an exclusive Chester Zoo backstamp.
This is a limited edition piece, each one is numbered and comes with a credit card sized certificate of authenticity. These gorgeous paperweights have been designed exclusively for Chester Zoo by Royal Crown Derby.
Proceeds will go towards funding for research into Elephant Endotheliotropic Herpesvirus (EEHV), a deadly virus which affects young elephants typically around weaning age both in zoos and in the wild.
Already proceeds from this and our other campaigns highlighting EEHV have afforded us the ability to discover ground-breaking developments in early detection and treatment methods.
Because of these, a two-year-old Asian elephant, named Indali Hi Way, made a full recovery from the virus – a rare case of an Asian elephant surviving this lethal illness.
Chester Zoo continues to spearhead vital scientific research into EEHV, which is a major threat to the long-term survival of endangered Asian elephants globally, with reports of wild elephant fatalities in India, Nepal, Myanmar and Thailand on the rise. It is known to have caused deaths in nine countries across their native range, as well as in zoo breeding programmes worldwide.
